Dr. David Gershon
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. David Gershon is one of the greatest innovators that deeply affected the arena of financial derivatives and market data in the past decade. In 2012 he was recognized and said to have “created a new universe of derivatives pricing from a black hole of market data” when he was honoured to join the Hall of Fame of Inside Market Data magazine. Dr. Gershon was also ranked among the top 50 executives in the financial technology field by Institutional investors “Tech50” in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and prior to this was ranked among Institutional Investors’ “Top 40 online” in 2007-2009. Among his achievements he was the first to introduce price transparency for options, which brought to the rise of FX options in the years 2001-2005 and interest rates options and commodity options in 2005-2006, he created the concept of modern front office system and recently revolutionized the market data terminal with a powerful modern web based platform. Dr. Gershon’s philosophy to focus simultaneously on 3 strong pillars for all asset classes simultaneously - the widest coverage of real time market data, analytics for pricing and risk management and cutting edge technology to include them in modern systems has successfully placed SuperDerivatives as a world leader in the financial markets technology and information.

Dr. Gershon founded SuperDerivatives in 2000 with the aim of introducing transparency among all options users- both sell and buy side. Since then, the company has expanded rapidly to have a strong global presence and is today recognised as the benchmark for option pricing and a market leader in derivatives technology including front end platforms, risk management systems, revaluation services and online execution utilities.

Dr. Gershon’s vision to transform options pricing from opaque to transparent has materialised with a significant part of derivatives professionals all over the world utilise SuperDerivatives platforms for their day to day activities and many back office organizations use SuperDerivatives market data to calculate their P/L and risk. Furthermore, many industry observers credit SuperDerivatives for the sizable growth in the number of options users over the past couple of years and the dramatic increase in liquidity.

Prior to starting SuperDerivatives, Dr. Gershon was Global Head of FX Exotic Options for Barclays Capital, based in the bank’s London headquarters. Earlier in his career he had traded at BZW New York (later to become Barclays Capital), covering emerging markets during their most volatile periods, and at Deutsche Bank in New York. Dr. Gershon’s career on Wall Street began in 1994 in NationsBank’s mortgage department.

Dr. Gershon has a Ph.D. in theoretical physics (Superstring theory), an MBA and an M.Sc. in Finance. The combination of his academic background and rich market experience has proved fundamental in the development of the patented SuperDerivatives benchmark pricing model for options, which uniquely provides an accurate reflection of the bid and offer prices of options in the inter-bank market in all asset classes.
